Present Company by Taylor Quitara

The final piece in the exhibition Present Company, this work offers a vision of Taylor Quitara’s imagined opening night, set to take place on the evening of August 12. At the center, an expansive table is surrounded by a constellation of figures—some real, some remembered, some dreamed. Scattered throughout are easter eggs that reference Kalei and the ever-shifting world of three-dimensional art it houses, along with the people who come and go.

More than a painting, Present Company acts as a mirror: by standing before it, the viewer becomes part of the gathering. The piece gently asks—Do all gatherings live twice? Once in their unfolding, and again in their retelling? Where and when do memory and moment collapse into one another?

A closing note on presence, intimacy, and the shared space between artist and viewer.
