THE WEIGHT OF A CHAIR

A celebration of Gaetano Pesce’s legacy, the article reflects on one of his final projects, the Oman Collection, created in collaboration with Amouage and to be presented by Kalei. It explores Pesce’s belief that objects carry emotion and meaning beyond function, shaped by his lifelong fascination with resin as a material that embraces imperfection, change, and individuality. Inspired by a journey to Oman’s frankincense forests, the collection evolves from an exploration of material into a meditation on nature, memory, and identity. Through Kalei’s forthcoming presentation, the work is framed within a contemporary dialogue on design and collectible art, highlighting the continued relevance of Pesce’s vision. Ultimately, it presents the Oman Collection as a fitting culmination of his career, reaffirming his belief that design can communicate, provoke, and carry lasting emotional resonance.

THIS NYC TOWNHOUSE IS FILLED WITH ITALIAN RADICAL DESIGN

For the first time ever, three of Italy’s most recognised “radical design” brands are being shown together in the US, as part of an exhibition taking place inside a New York townhouse.

On the occasion of @nycxdesign, the @italianradicaldesign group – made up of Memphis, Gufram, and Meritalia – has taken over a space named Kalei NYC, in the Bowery district of the city. Iconic pieces from each of the three brands are spread out across three floors – from Gufram’s Cactus, to Memphis’ Carlton bookcase.

The show comes at a moment when Radical Design period, which took place in Italy from the mid 1960s to the 1970s, has gained a whole new generation of appreciators. “This take-over asserts the enduring urgency of Radical Design today as an ongoing challenge to how objects are experienced,” they add.
