Ashoka by Ettore Sottsass, which takes its name from the emperor of the Maurya Empire, resembles an unstable stack of playful geometric forms. Though it seems “de-structured,” the lamp is actually well-balanced, assembled in a perfectly symmetrical arrangement resting on a solid gray rectangular base.
